Baked Apple Cider Donuts

Come fall, apple farms and bakeries alike begin selling fresh and addictive apple cider donuts. Whether they’re glazed with buttermilk and cider, or rolled in a cinnamon-sugar mixture, apple cider donuts are about as classic a fall treat as you can get.
I made my own baked version in under an hour and glazed them with a maple cinnamon glaze. They were soft and moist, with a delicious, distinctive apple cider taste that I love, and I’ve already made them once for a party, at which they received rave reviews.

  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/8 tsp allspice
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/3 cup maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup apple cider
  • 1/4 cup apple sauce
  • 1 tbsp melted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Generously grease a donut pan and set aside.
  2. In a small bowl combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, spices, and salt. In a separate bowl whisk together maple syrup, apple cider, apple sauce, butter, and vanilla extract. Add wet ingredients to dry and mix until just combined.
  3. Pipe batter into the prepared donut pan, filling each mold about 3/4 full.
  4. Bake for 8-10 minutes, until donut springs back when gently pressed. Remove from oven and let cool in pan for a few minutes before transferring doughnuts onto a cooling rack to cool completely.
  5. To make glaze, whisk together powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons maple syrup and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon in a small shallow bowl.
  6. When donuts have cooled, brush with glaze. Enjoy!
